Topic: A Case Study in Automated Optical Sensor Proximity Test
Smart phones are equipped with optical sensors to adjust the backlight and sometimes color of the screen to improve the display in any lighting condition. These sensors may also include an integrated proximity measurement to disable the touch screen when the smart phone is near the user’s face. An automated test system has been developed to expedite the characterization of these devices and collect data for OEM design recommendations. This presentation will focus on the LabVIEW application which supports multiple devices with different register maps, updates the GUI per user selection, and controls the motorized stage to vary DUT to target distance.

Speaker: Sam Broyles, Staff Applications Engineer, ams Sensors USA
Sam Broyles has 19 years of experience in automated test, including multiple ATE systems and custom test system integration using LabVIEW, TestStand, Altium, and AutoCAD. Device test experience includes bus transceivers, audio power amplifiers, low power wireless transceivers, RF power amplifiers, circuit board assemblies, and optical sensors. Sam is also the former Chairman of the Dallas IEEE Consumer Electronics Society and Dallas IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Society chapters.
